An Introduction to Building Information Modeling (BIM) provides information on how to adopt BIM tools and applications for use in business practices. This Guide indentifies state-of-the-art in software applications and related protocols, along with additional resources for making a transition to BIM.

BIM is a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility. To create a BIM, a modeler uses intelligent objects to build the model. I find it interesting that they define 4D as cost and 5D as time/scheduling (see page 5 of their document). I was under the impression that the 4th dimension was universally accepted to be time and the 5th was accepted to be cost. The 6th is whatever the flavor of the week happens to be. Is this an oops in their document?
