Issue

You would like to know what some of the most common questions and answers are for Revit DB Link.

Solution

  • Will shared parameters be included in the export to DB Link?

Shared parameters can be included in the export as long as they exist in the project as project parameters. For each shared parameter, ensure that under Manage > Project Parameters > Add > Shared Parameter, there is a parameter associated for the specific object category. As long as the shared parameters appear under the project parameters list they should be included with the export.

  • Where can I find the full Help file for DB Link?

To open the Revit DB Link documentation there are 2 options:

    1. Manually open the HelpRevitDBLink.chm under C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autodesk Revit DB Link 2010.

    2. In Revit navigate to Add-Ins > External Tools > Revit DB Link. Click the ? icon, and then click anywhere on the Link Revit Model with Database dialog to launch the documentation.

  • Can I export to Excel® or Access® on a 64-bit operating system?

On a 64-bit operating system you cannot export to Excel or Access. Microsoft® does not currently provide drivers for a 64-bit operating system.

  • How can I set up the SQL database for my 64-bit operating system?

You can utilize SQL 2005 Express® from Microsoft through the following link:

    SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
