Autodesk - Live Construction Webcast: 2D or Not 2D? That is the Question.

...and on the other end of the spectrum, we have Autodesk telling you to keep doing 2D. Make up your mind. It's either BIM or bust. We can't be sending mixed signals. OK, well, Revit Architecture Suite does include a free copy of Revit with every seat of AutoCAD. If only they AutoCAD development team would stop stealing Revit features and adding them to AutoCAD. There's nothing like trying to take a 2D product and trick you into thinking it's a BIM replacement.

Anyway, I'm sure there's some good stuff in this webcast, I'm just too tired to notice right now.

Date & Time: Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. PDT

BIM isn’t the future anymore—it’s the present—and the firms who started implementing BIM in the past couple of years have a head start on those who are still deciding whether to or how to implement it. Implementing BIM doesn’t just mean installing software—it’s a process that optimizes information, people, and processes. At its core is the generation of 3D models rich with detailed building information, but 3D modeling doesn’t magically solve all the issues involved in successfully—and cost-effectively—delivering a project.

We may live in a 3D world, but 2D designs and workflows are often still the reality. When is it more effective to keep components of a building in 2D and when is it best to retrace them in 3D? How can mastering both 2D and 3D processes in your project delivery possibly help reduce your risk? Learn the answers to these questions and more in this one-hour webcast with Autodesk Construction expert, Kevin Durham.

In this webcast, Kevin will demonstrate:

  • Examples of building elements that benefit from 2D treatment, even in a BIM process
  • How to use AutoCAD® as an important component of the BIM process
  • How to retrace 2D designs in 3D with Autodesk Revit Architecture
  • How to coordinate both 2D and 3D design information for whole project review
  • How to leverage 2D and 3D information to deliver your projects more cost- and time-effectively

It’s the “I” in BIM (Information) that can catapult your productivity by improving collaboration across project teams and help you demonstrate competitive value to your owner clients. Whether that information is in 2D or 3D, we’ll show you how to maximize your investment in 2D design and 3D BIM software to help you improve collaboration and coordination, waste less time and materials, and ultimately offer you a competitive business advantage.
