A couple of Autodesk products that didn't make it to 2011

Autodesk has not renewed the life of some products.  Here is their obituary.

AutoCAD Revit Architecture Visualization Suite

This had included: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, Revit Architecture, 3ds Max Design and Navisworks Review.  We didn't sell a lot of it.  You couldn't run Max on a different machine as the serial numbers were bound together.

Navisworks Review is gone.  There are now two choices, Navisworks Simulate and Navisworks Manage (my favorite).  Navisworks Freedom is still available (free download link).  If you don't at least use Freedom, you're nuts.  It's an amazing way to review models and is super fast and a tiny file size.  I took a 192MB Rvt file and it was 11MB in Navisworks.

  • Free** viewer for easy opening of .NWD and 3D DWF files
  • Enables viewing of model hierarchy, object properties and embedded review data, including viewpoints, animations, redlines, and comments
  • Includes full set of navigation tools: Walk; Look Around; Zoom; Zoom Box; Pan; Orbit; Examine; Fly; Turntable
  • Supports real-time display of materials and lighting
AutoCAD Civil is gone.  AutoCAD Civil 3D is still here and great this year.  The only difference was really just the Map 3D component.

The Autodesk Revit Architecture Visualization Suite will be released for 2011, just not at the same time as the other Revit products.
