Revit Services & Support - Revit Options Bar duplicates or moves objects when selected

Hopefully, you'll only be seeing 2010 tech bulletins for just a few more days....

Published date: 2010-Apr-14
ID: TS14997251

Applies to:
Autodesk® Revit® Architecture 2010
Autodesk® Revit® MEP 2010
Autodesk® Revit® Structure 2010

When you select an object the Revit® Options Bar duplicates or physically moves the object.

Taking the following actions can reduce the frequency of this behavior:

  1. If the options bar duplicates when an object is selected it can physically move the object. Disabling Press & Drag will prevent an object from physically moving if this should occur. Press & Drag can be un-checked on the Revit Status Bar.

Alternatively Press & Drag can be disabled in the Revit.ini, located in C:\Program Files\\Program, by adding the following 2 lines:

  2. Ensure the graphics card driver is fully up to date.
  3. If using a dual-monitor setup ensure Revit is located on the primary monitor.
  4. Un-dock and then re-dock the Project browser.

If the issue persists you can reset the Revit registry at the following location:

  • Autodesk Revit Architecture 2010
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit Architecture 2010
  • Autodesk Revit Structure 2010
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit Structure 2010
  • Autodesk Revit MEP 2010
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk MEP 2010

Warning! Problems caused by improperly editing the Windows registry could render your computer operating system unusable. Microsoft provides a wealth of critical information that you need to know about the registry in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at http://support.microsoft.com.

Use the Microsoft® Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after backing up the registry as well as the system.dat and user.dat files as outlined for your operating system in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and in the related solution, TS66513. Additional information about the registry is also contained in the Help topics in the Microsoft Registry Editor.

  1. Backup the registry using the process in TS66513.
  2. Close the Revit 2010 product.
  3. Open the Windows Registry Editor through Run > REGEDIT.
  4. Locate the registry folder location for your specific product at the path above.
  5. Right-click on the product folder > Delete. For example right-click on Autodesk Revit Architecture 2010 > Delete.
  6. Launch the Revit 2010 product to recreate the registry folder structure.
