Buzzsaw Sync and Revit 2011 - The Revit Clinic

Sorry for the lack of posts the last few days. I had another two events to speak at and another tomorrow. After that, things should be back to abnormal. Here'a a little Buzzsaw post for you. I'm still shocked that so few people use Buzzsaw for collaboration. Do you have any idea how much time and money you waste every day looking for documents? Do you have any idea what that costs you in lost wages and profits? So many of you are so concerned with not spending money on software and technology, you piss away your money on salary.

Before the post, here's a quick scenario so you can see how stupid this all is. Pennies a day versus millions of dollars lost in your industry. How do you manage your paperwork and documents?

$ 6,900 Cost/year
50 Number of users
$ 138.00 Cost/person/year
260 Number of working days in a year
2,080 Number of working hours in a year
$ 0.53 Cost per person/day
$ 0.07 Cost per person/hour

$ 100 Billable Rate/hour
20 Time Spent searching for documents/day
$ 1.67 Rate per minute
$ 33.33 Cost to search for documents/day
$ 8,666.67 Cost to search for documents/person/year
433,333Cummulative cost for 50 people/year
$ 0.53 Cost of Buzzsaw per person/day
$ 138.00 Cost per person for Buzzsaw/year

$ 138.00 Cost for Buzzsaw/person/year
$ 8,666.67 Cost of not having Buzzsaw/person/year

5% of time Buzzsaw saves you per day
480 Number of minutes/workday
24 Number of minutes potentially saved/day using Buzzsaw
100 Billable Rate
$ 1.67 Billable Rate/minute
$ 25.67 Salary savings/person/day
$ 6,673.33 Salary savings/person/year
$ 138.00 Cost for Buzzsaw/person/year

So, let's look at the bottom line. Not having Buzzsaw costs you $8666/person/year.
The times savings if you had it would save you $6673/year.
Buzzsaw costs $138/person/year.

So, WTF? Do they really teach no business classes in architectural school? It's almost comical. You're so happy to hire drafters, but you never do the math on the savings of tools like Revit and Buzzsaw.

Of course, none of you are using Buzzsaw, so what's the point of this next point. Oh, it's for all of the contractors who do invest in these tools. Hey contractors, look at how much more money you make because you do use Buzzsaw.

If you are a Buzzsaw user and a Revit user, this is for you.
If you install a Revit 2011 product and Buzzsaw Sync (build 2011.1.17.1590), then launch Revit, you will encounter the following error message:
Screen shot 2010-05-10 at 10.12.18 AM

The error comes up 3 times, then does not happen again for the rest of the Revit session. Once Revit is restarted, it happens again.
This looks pretty bad, but it does not appear to affect the actual operation of Revit, everything in Revit appears to work once you have dismissed the dialogs.

In order to make the error message go away, you can uninstall Buzzsaw Sync for the time being. Our development team is aware of this issue and is actively investigating it.
