A Serious Error Has Occurred when Attempting to Remove CAD Link - The Revit Clinic

Source: http://revitclinic.typepad.com/my_weblog/2010/09/a-serious-error-has-occurred-when-attempting-to-remove-cad-link.html

I wanted to include an approach to remove a CAD link, should you run into the following error message when attempting to remove or reload:

A serious error has occurred. It is strongly recommended that you use Save As to save your work in a new file before continuing.

SeriousError

This could potentially occur when shared positioning was enabled between a linked CAD file associated with the current Revit Site position. If Revit is unable to reconcile this position, the error could occur which would prevent you from removing or reloading the link.

You can remove the link through the following process:

1. Manage > Location > Site > Duplicate current site location.

2. Make new location current.

3. Manage Links > Remove CAD Link.

4. Manage > Location > Site > Make previous location current, delete temporary site location.

Included below is a quick video [no sound] of this process as well:

Video Example

I hope this helps!
