My Top Five for Architects by Amy Fietkau, Autodesk Technical Specialist for Architects
This Month's List: My Top 5 Ways for Architects to Get Started with BIM
Hi, I'm Amy Fietkau, Autodesk Technical Specialist for Architecture. You may know me as the voice of Autodesk architecture webcasts, tips & tricks presentations or Ask Amy. In my role, I come across interesting and noteworthy videos, articles, blogs, presentations, customer stories and other materials for architects on a daily basis. Join me each month as I list My Top Five favorites.
This month's theme is My Top 5 Ways for Architects to Get Started with BIM
#1. Getting Started with BIM Using the Autodesk Building Design Suite. If you\'re one of the many who are currently using AutoCAD or a 2D drafting tool for your designs, and wondering how to make the leap to BIM, I recommend watching this on demand presentation. In less than 30 minutes you\'ll get great tips and ideas on how to leverage your existing AutoCAD data while getting up to speed with Revit, so you can have all the advantages of BIM without giving up your AutoCAD workflow
#2. Tips for Getting Your First BIM Project Off the Ground with Revit Architecture. I created this online presentation as a primer on the basic steps to take when kicking off a BIM project for the first time
#3. Move to a suite and save 20%. The Autodesk "Get Current" promotion lets you purchase a new suite such as the Building Design Suite, or upgrade to a new 2012 product release, at significant savings. The promo is only good through July 15th though, so act fast!
#4. Follow Revit Wikihelp on Twitter. Want to learn more about Revit in a quick, easy & dynamic fashion? Revit Wikihelp is a community site run by Autodesk staff, partners, and customers to foster learning about Revit and BIM. Follow them on Twitter @RevitWikiHelp to get up to the minute information and tips on how your peers are leveraging BIM software
#5. USGBC Multifamily Midrise Design Competition. This competition, sponsored by Autodesk, is designed to provide architects with a unique opportunity to present their solutions for a sustainable multifamily midrise design on a site in New Orleans. The competition winner will receive a copy of the Autodesk Building Design Suite Ultimate edition and will be formally announced at Greenbuild 2011. Registration closes on August 1st, so check it out now!
I hope you've enjoyed this month's edition of My Top Five. If you have comments or suggestions for future editions of My Top Five, please visit Ask Amy. Happy Designing!
