I'll start this post by first stating that I am a journalist and am exercising my rights as a writer. Second, someone at Autodesk must really like me because I've been sent files from an anonymous cloud storage folder with lots of juicy 2013 product information.
All of this information will be public on the 27th, but I always love being the first to post Revit product information and this year will be no different. I have no idea who sent me this information, no way to trace it and the download links were not sent via email and have all been removed. Whoever it was, whether it's from Autodesk directly or the reseller just down the street, they covered their tracks very well, so thank you mystery person for your efforts.
There have been other websites, tweets and blogs mentioning Autodesk 2013 product tidbits, so it is already in the public domain. Just go to www.Revit2013.com and all of the 2013 posts are tagged, so you won't miss a thing.
Now, for the good stuff. Here's how this is going to work. At 13 minutes past 9 am Eastern time, new features of Revit Architecture, Revit Structure and Revit MEP will be posted here. The first one will start at 9:13 AM and a new feature post will be published every 2013 seconds (33.55 minutes).
From what I've been told, Revit is releasing on April 12th and resellers already have the final versions in their hands, so call them up and bug them for a demo.
Feature #1...and Luke, this one's for you.
For the big 2013 launch, here's a huge one. Building Design Premium and Building Design Ultimate will not include Revit Architecture, Revit Structure and Revit MEP.
Instead, Autodesk has created a new product, simply called Revit (just like iPad 3 is just called iPad) that includes all features from each of the individual products in one piece of software.
I can't imagine this will be a huge deal to architects, but this will be a giant increase in efficiency for BIM Contractors. For those of you wanting Revit Structure or Revit MEP features, it's the perfect time to crossgrade from a Revit Suite to a Building Design Suite. Oops. I'm sorry. There I go sounding like an Autodesk salesperson.
There's lots more to come over the next few hours, so please come back and visit frequently today.
Also, as I'll be mentioning frequently, you must join the buildingSMART alliance who's creating national BIM standards. It's just $75/year and they're the people striving for vendor interoperability. Click here to join. http://www.nibs.org/index.php/membership/application/.
