One of my favorite BIM vendors, Vela, has done it again. Forget BIM. The future lies in the portable BIM world. Now that the iPad 3 supports 4G networks, you can access the data that you NS, when you need it, where you need it....in the field. Sure, architects and engineers designing in collaborative BIM is important, but all of the time and money lies in actually building the project. With hundreds or thousands of people directly and indirectly involved in estimating, fabricating, delivering, constructing, installing, testing, invoicing and maintaining the millions of bits and pieces needed to Put a building together, it's no wonder how companies like Vela are the true BIM leaders.
It's all part of my concept of Googlizing BIM. It's all about the massive database of information and if you think you can handle it from your inbox, you're part of the problem, not the solution. Give me all of the filters information I need, when I need it. Make it shareable and portable. Contractors don't sit at their desks all day, they're out in the field coordinating, dealing with schedules, deliveries, installation and labor logistics. That's what the BIM is really about and one of the favorite parts of my job, which I to figure this all out for my company and be an expert at it before you've even heard of it.
Anyway, enough about me, let's talk about you. If you expect to stay in the game, invest your time in learning more about Vela. Contact me if you want to know more or who the right people are to talk to at Vela.
