e-SPECS Selected by Arup as Enterprise Wide Specification Solution - Press Release

There's one thing I just don't understand and that's how so many people say they're doing BIM, yet they don't invest in all of the tools to really take it to the next level.  You know who you are. You're the guy that says it's just easier to hire an outside spec writer to work on your projects.

One of the things I love about my firm is that we've been looking at every technology and software that can make the process better.  I always wonder how the really small firms and sole proprietors are going to be able to compete with companies that can make these investments.  So, kudos to Arup for adding one of my favorite software vendors to their BIM portfolio.

Contractors, don't forget that e-SPECS works with Navisworks now.  That's great for your workflow and finding information.

April 25, 2012 – InterSpec Inc., the industry leading provider of BIM integrated construction specification software and services, today announced Arup has selected its patented e-SPECS software as the firm’s construction specification solutions. Arup is an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists offering a broad range of professional services. The firm’s North American offices will use the e-SPECS software and services to enhance the design services and delivery available to Arup’s clients.

InterSpec’s patented e-SPECS software solutions automate the preparation of construction specifications and selection of products and materials that are incorporated into commercial construction projects. InterSpec’s e-SPECS products are used by thousands of architects, engineers and construction professionals to help them keep their construction drawings and specifications in sync while reducing the overall cost of development.

“We’re proud to include Arup to our list of leading AEC firms recognizing the need for improvements in coordinated construction documents,” said Michael Brennan, CEO of InterSpec. “e-SPECS providesmultiple office firms with centralized management of proprietary design specification content enabling effective management and distribution of that knowledge to other locations. Firms like Arup can collaborate more effectively and timely on projects. With e-SPECS integration of the leading master specifications in the United States and Canada along with owners such as the US Dept of Veterans Affairs, Arup has one specification solution that meets their design needs.”

Fiona Cousins, Principal at Arup, explains “We have chosen e-SPECS for its ability to help us manage our regional standard specifications and to share knowledge gained across our offices. We expect that the straightforward editing interface and automatic formatting will speed up, and improve the accuracy of our specification production.”

Arup evaluated e-SPECS at multiple offices on in-house projects. The ability to provide one solution across all offices in North America, manage the firm’s custom masters, and the potential to integrate e-SPECS with BIM models were major factors in selecting e-SPECS. Arup will be managing their firm’s specification masters based on MasterSpec® and Canadian specifications. All offices will access firm design preferences centrally managed on industry-standard Microsoft SQL servers. Arup is using InterSpec training and services to facilitate cost effective integration into their construction document process.
