Excel Hyperlinks & Document Management Tricks

Do you have to keep track of a lot of different folders and files?
Do you wish you peers could open the correct Revit file?
Are you tired of having to tell people where to look for files?
Do you wish you could keep track of a project's active folders?

Well, here's a little tool for you. Excel can combine strings of text and it also has a hyperlink function. So, you can create a little project data spreadsheet and keep track of everything on a project without having to constantly search through folders.  At my last job, there was a project that had 1421 folders.  How the heck are you ever supposed to find something in less than 15 minutes if you're not the one managing the project.

Here's what you do.
1 Open Windows Explorer.
2 Go to a folder, any folder on your server.
3 While holding the Shift Key, Right Click on a file or folder
4 Now, let go of the Shift Key and Left Click on 'Copy as Path' 

As a bonus for you since you asked, if you click on one file or folder then  hold down the Control Key and click on other files and/or folders, then Shift+Right Click and 'Copy as Path', you can select multiple items at one time for the next step.

Next step is to open Excel.
Go to cell B1
Hold the Control Key and tap V (Ctrl+V = Paste)
Whatever you copied as path will now fill in on Column B in Excel.
In cells C1 and the cells below it, you can type in a friendly name for files and folders.

Now, for the final step,
Copy this formula:  


Now, go to Excel and go to cell A1.
Now, copy what's in cell A1 and you can paste it from A2 down as far as you want to A100 or beyond

Column A will now have a list of files and/or folders with hyperlinks that will automatically open files or folders for you.

You can also add web pages in Column B.  For example, if you have a cloud upload folder on Box.com, you can open the project subfolder in Box, then copy and paste the URL to the Excel spreadsheet.  You can put your server folder right below that in the spreadsheet, so you can quickly open the folder where files need to be uploaded or downloaded, then open the Box subdirectory to sync your files.

You can get fancy later and hide Columns B & C or make a new Tab, cut Column A and paste it into the other tab.  You can also simply type mailto:name@domain.com in a cell in Column A for quick links to email people.  

My overall concept is that you have a spreadsheet for each project you have.
You can even have a master spreadsheet listing each project, job number and project manager/team and then have a page which each project folder that can open up the individual project folder and file hyperlink list to manage your project documents.

Ask your staff how much time they spend everyday trying to find files and then ask the people who occasionally go into project folders how long it takes them to find stuff.  

10 minutes a day searching is 43.33 hours a year.  Multiple that by $75/hour billable rate and you're losing $3250 a year per person.  If your firm has 50 people, you're only losing $162,500 a year in billable time.

Each of these three web-based collaboration tools provide task automation, project reporting, system monitoring and project level security to provide easy sharing of BIM data inside organizations and amongst external partners.

In addition to offering file-based project sharing as well as support for Revit Server 2013 and 2014, IMAGINiT Clarity and Clarity LT have numerous new and improved features. The 2014 version of IMAGINiT Clarity Workshare has also received extensive improvements which have also been based largely on customer feedback.

Task Automation

All Clarity products allow tasks to be automated in three ways: every time a Revit file is updated; at a scheduled time; or on demand. Mundane tasks such as exporting data to Navisworks or DGN file formats or creating ModelReview reports can now be performed on demand, freeing up staff to undertake higher value tasks.

To share model data with team members who don’t use Revit, Clarity products can automatically generate a variety of file export options including PDF, DWF, DWG, IFC, GBxml, FBX and more.


Due to popular demand, all Clarity products have now greatly extended the capabilities of datasheets to go beyond the popular room data sheets. BIM team members now have almost 20 different data sheet options to choose from including furniture and equipment.

Control that Mimics Business Workflow

The IMAGINiT Clarity product family is specifically designed to enhance collaboration and reduce time and resources required to complete necessary tasks. In line with this objective, now all Clarity products can assign roles that mimic typical workflows. For example, the BIM coordinator role can now assign tasks while a new view only role can be used by marketing staff who can access, view and share data, but cannot make any changes to the model.

The BIM Coordinator for AutoCAD Civil 3D and Revit was our free technology preview that assists project team members with building and site grids. The technology preview automated the more error-prone manual steps in the coordination of site and building grids between the AutoCAD and Revit environments. The tool specified one common XYZ point and its orientation in the XY plane between the two coordinate systems. This reference point defined the relationship between the building and site grid.

    AGC BIMForum Level of Development Specification that has been released for review and comment

    Ladies and gentlemen, this is one of the most important and "this will kick you in the ass if you don't pay attention" aspects of BIM. Even if you don't fill out the survey, you'd better study this, especially if you're a subcontractor.  


    AGC BIMForum Level of Development Specification that has been released for review and comment

    The AGC is looking for input on the draft version of the AGC BIMForum Level of Development Specification that has been released for review and comment on April 24th, 2013.
    This is to be a supplement to help with use of the AIA E-202 contract document.
    The AGC is looking for comment and criticism of the document before June 7th 2013.

    The final document is scheduled to be released to the public on July 13th,2013 in a fully Indexed, bookmarked and hyperlinked PDF format.

    The Level of Development (LOD) Specification is a reference that enables practitioners in the AEC Industry to specify and articulate with a high level of clarity the content and reliability of Building Information Models (BIMs) at various stages in the design and construction process. The LOD Specification utilizes the basic LOD definitions developed by the AIA for the AIA G202-2013 Building Information Modeling Protocol Form and is organized by CSI Uniformat 2010.  It defines and illustrates characteristics of model elements of different building systems at different Levels of Development. This clear articulation allows model authors to define what their models can be relied on for, and allows downstream users to clearly understand the usability and the limitations of models they are receiving.

    The intent of the Specification is to help explain the LOD framework and standardize its use so that it becomes more useful as a communication tool.  It does not prescribe what Levels of Development are to be reached at what point in a project but leaves the specification of the model progression to the user of this document. To accomplish the document’s intent, its primary objectives are:

    ·         To help teams, including owners, to specify BIM deliverables and to get a clear picture of what will be included in a BIM deliverable

    ·         To help design managers explain to their teams the information and detail that needs to be provided at various points in the design process

    ·         To provide a standard that can be referenced by contracts and BIM execution plans.

    A Sad BIM day - The journey continues

    It with great sadness that I write this blog post.  Today is my last day at ACAI Associates and ACAI Technologies.  Unfortunately, I need to be much closer to home due to the health of my parents and spending between 90 and 120 minutes a day commuting, necessitated a move to a new adventure. 

    It was a very emotional decision to make and I can't tell you enough how amazing the ACAI family is.  I've never worked with a more passionate, hard working, intelligent, motivated and caring group of people.  I've never seen an architecture firm care this much about their quality, deliverables and comittment to their clients.  Being the first architecture firm I've ever worked at, I had no idea what really goes on day to day.  If there's one thing I've learned, is that it's exhausting.  Between the deadlines, decisions and dollars (3D), all of the details that go into the details, keeping the disciplines disciplined (you must be disciplined in your discipline or you will be disciplined), I don't know how you guys do this day in and day out.  

    My time at ACAI was very special to me and I'm forever grateful to Adolfo Cotilla (yes, Adolfo, I am mentioning your name in a blog post) and Cindy Baldwin (who I hope is reading this on her iPad and retweeting it (@CindyWBaldin) to the whole world of BuildingSmart alliance followers.  The leaders of the company are brilliant, dynamic and amazing in what they've created, not just for the growth of the company in the past few years, but also for their wisdom in picking the best and smartest people to be a part of the ACAI team.  It's been an honor working with the two of you and I look forward to many years of continuing to work with you in my new role as a consultant to the firm.  

    Adolfo, thank you for taking the leap of faith with BIM and allowing the company to expand into so many different ways.  I can't imagine what it's like for a principal to take the risk of new technologies and methodologies, but you embraced it and I'm sad that I can't be there on a daily basis to help even more.  Cindy, for someone who doesn't drink coffee, I don't know how you have even more energy that I do.  Thank you for the opportunity to spend the last 18 months having a BIM technology laboratory and for the chance to further my passion for BIM.  I'm so proud of your accomplishments in growing the ACAI family and watching what you've done with the buildingSmart alliance, thankful to have been up on stage with you for some of your amazing BIM presentations and lectures and honored to work with someone who's spent so much time researching BIM and it's technologies (and for reading my blog these past few years and taking some of my ideas and posts and turning them into something wonderful).  

    To my special BIM friends Alix, Nic, Justin, Julio, Cesar, Flo, Oscar, David, Raul, Bryan, Peck and Brian, I will miss our daily BIM bantering and I've never seen such hard working and talented people.  You are all so skilled and wonderful, it saddens me to not be there to see the craziness, loudness and hectic work that you do.  Well, maybe I won't miss that so much as it stresses me out to see how you guys manage to get everything done that you do.  You all do such amazing work and are truly a fantastic team of people.  Your willingness to take on new challenges, find ways to solve problems and watching you collaborate and share your knowledge with each other, made me proud to be a part of your team and help in my own special way.  

    I never in my life thought I'd end up working at an architecture firm, but I have learned so much from the experience that I know that I never want to do that ever again.  My apologies for previous blog posts where I said anything unkind about your industry.  I still hate AutoCAD and anyone who uses it on a daily basis for their clients.  I have a new found respect for anyone and any firm who takes on the challenge of moving to BIM and the pain and gain from making that transition.  It's a monumental commitment and even though Revit looks so easy, it's such a pain in the ass to learn how to truly harness it's capabilities.  I don't know how you do it and manage to meet your daily deadlines.  

    Alix and David, I'll miss you both the most and I know you'll both continue to do great things for the company.  Maybe without me there as a distraction, you'll get even more done.  Alix, I'm only a join.me click away from any questions or problems you run into.  David, I'm putting a filter on the firewall so you don't have to listen to that horrible dribble on your radio streaming and I'm truly honored to have seen what you've done over the past 6 years with BIM and I'm in awe of your BIM greatness and technology talents.  There are only two people in the world that I can ever have geeky Excel formula conversations with, so I'm extra thankful that we've been able to talk about stuff that makes everyone else's eyes glaze over.  Alix, I can hardly wait for you to drop your Surface and have a trio of devices with cracked glass.  Please send me a picture of it when it's been crackingly customized.

    To everyone else reading this, I'm still going to continue with the blog as I'm going to be working for a national subcontractor and I'll be telling you more about my role there and it will be interesting to see BIM in action at the subcontractor level.  As one chapter ends, a new one begins.  Although I'm excited to be working much closer to home, I will never forget my time at ACAI and will truly miss being there every day.  I've never been sad to leave a job or a company before, but there is truly something magical there and maybe it's just because BIM is all about the people and what an amazing group of people I've had the honor of sharing my life with.

    Figured out how to actually view point cloud data files on my iPad #BIM #Autodesk #iPad

    Ok Alix, you really pissed me off when you said my last attempt was only an image and not really a point cloud on my iPad.  So, I did what anyone without a workflow and process would do. I figured out a way to piss you off and create a new dimension to BIM.

    If you're using Autodesk 2013 software, you can bring your point clouds into Navisworks. Then, if you're lucky enough to have it, export your Navisworks model to BIM Glue.  Then you can see your point cloud project on the iPad.  I haven't tried this with Navisworks 2014 since Autodesk hasn't released their BIM Glue plugin yet (and there's no reason for the delay)!

    It does take a bit of time to upload and parse, and it's not the fastest of ways to view your point cloud, especially compared to the awesome Recap program, but I did manage to open the model and walk through the project as seen in the video below.  It really is awesome.  File size is an issue and I don't know how many scan files you can load at once into Glue. 

    It's not the most elegant solution, but I wanted a way to see a point cloud on the iPad and now Alix owes me an apology!  PS. Kris, call me and I'll walk you through it (and you owe me a beer).  Cindy, thank you for letting me have the BIM laboratory to invent creations like this.

    If you don't have a Glue account, you can save the point cloud files as NWDs and email them to your iPad and then you can view them on Glue.

    For student and education versions of our applications, we may require information to confirm your eligibility.  For our customers who make purchases through our channel partners or ecommerce providers, we will receive personal information about you from these companies so that we can have an accurate record of applications to which you have access. 
    To help keep our databases current and to provide you with more relevant content, experiences and offerings, we may combine information you give us with information from public sources and trustworthy companies (such as our resellers and ecommerce providers, and business contact databases), all in accordance with applicable law. 
    For example, these sources can tell us about the company size and industry of our business customers, and also help us maintain the accuracy of our databases.
    Autodesk desktop product activation and automatic updates
    When you activate an Autodesk desktop application, we collect information about your system, the desktop application you are activating, and the application (product) serial number. Learn more about activation. Some of our applications include features that connect to our servers and let you install updates to the application. We may keep track of information such as whether the update was successful or not.
    Websites and applications
    Our websites or applications may collect usage information so we can manage our agreement with you or the company, organization or institution through which you receive access – for example, so we know how much to charge based on amount of use, or when the limit of the services paid for has been reached. You can get more information by reading the terms of service or software license agreement that applies to the applications you are using, and by talking to your license or contract administrator.
    Some of our websites and applications include specific data collection programs. Depending on the website or application, this information may or may not be associated with your personal information. You can learn more about specific programs, as well as your choices about how we use this information.
    Automatic data collection tools, cookies and similar technologiesWhen you communicate with us, access our websites and applications through a browser, application, or other client, our servers automatically collect and record certain information. For example, your browser or device may tell us your browser type, language preference and the Internet Protocol (IP) address (which may tell us generally where you are located) and the type of device or system you used. Your browser may also tell us information such as the time and date of your request, page that led you to our website and, if applicable, the search terms you typed into a search engine that led you to our website.
    In addition, we and our service providers may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about how you use our websites and applications, and to measure the success of email or advertising campaigns. Choices about cookies and similar technologies.
    When we send you emails, they might include a web beacon or similar technology that lets us know if you received or opened the email and whether you clicked on any of the links in the email. You can opt-out of marketing emails.
    Buttons, tools, ads, and content from other companiesOur websites and applications may include buttons, tools, advertisements, or content that links to another companies' services (for example, a Facebook "Like" button on a webpage, a Google Maps feature in an application, or an ad in a mobile app). We may collect information about your use of these features.
    In addition, when you see or interact with these buttons, tools, ads, or content, or view our webpage or application containing them, some information from your browser may automatically be sent to the other company.     Our websites and applications may feature ads for other companies' products and services, as well as for ads our own applications.
    We may work with one or more advertising networks (each an Ad Partner) who use cookies, tracking pixels, or other technologies to collect information in order to serve you ads and help us track results. Examples of this information may include, but are not limited to, websites you visit, mobile apps you use, preferences you may provide us as the app provider (such as language preferences), your IP address (for purposes of determining your general location), device ID, MAC address, and browser information. This information helps:
    • ensure that appropriate advertising is shown in the application or on the website
    • calculate and control the number of unique and repeat views of a given ad
    • deliver ads that relate to your interests, and
    • measure the effectiveness of ad campaigns
    Some technology enables advertising to be temporarily uploaded onto your mobile device and replaced while you are online.
    We do not actively share personal information with our Ad Partners or third party advertisers for their direct marketing purposes unless you give us your consent. Our Ad Partners deliver ads for us and may combine the information collected or obtained from us with other information they have independently collected from other websites and/or other online or mobile products and services relating to your browser's activities across their network of websites.
    Please note that if you choose to click on an ad or participate in promotions of any third-party advertisers via an ad that appears in our application, this is solely between you and the advertiser and your participation is subject to the terms and conditions associated with that ad or promotion.
    Social sign on and social networking
    Some of our websites and applications may allow you to sign in using a social networking platform account (such as Facebook, Google+ or Twitter). Social sign-on features may make creating an account with us faster for you by pre-populating our registration or user profile form with information you provided to the social networking platform. The first time you use a social sign-on service, the social media platform typically explains what information will be shared with us.
    Also, we have pages on many social networking platforms where you can visit and communicate with us. We may collect information when you visit our social networking pages. We will use this and social sign-on information for the purposes described in this privacy statement. Be sure to review the privacy and data usage policies of any social networking platform you use to learn more about its personal information practices and your options.
    ChildrenSome Autodesk websites and applications are intended for general audiences. However, we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children aged 12 years old and under. In some jurisdictions, notification, prior written permission or other verifiable parental consent may be required of a parent or guardian for children from 13 to 17 years of age. No information should be submitted nor posted to Autodesk websites or applications by children 12 years old or under.
    Information and content that you disclose
    Some of our websites and applications allow you to post "likes," comments, profile information (including profile images), videos, photographs, images, design files, and other content for others to see. In some cases you can limit who can view or access information and content you post. In other cases, the information and content might be available to registered members of the application or website, or even to the general public.
    We urge you to be careful and thoughtful when deciding to disclose personal information, or any other information, on our applications and websites. If you are posting information you to not want to be disclosed publicly, make sure you are using a website or application that allows you to control who sees information you have posted.
    Please note that in some of our application and website forums, your name, user name, profile image, or email address may be posted along with any message you post. For example, information posted on Area, Instructables and Socialcam will be public by default. If you choose to share personal information in this way, the access limitations, security protocols and other commitments in this privacy statement will not apply to the information shared.

    For some websites or applications, we may allow access to certain content that you have shared publicly, including personal information, through an application programming interface (API). Learn more.
    Storage, retention and deletion of personal information
    We store personal information and data files associated with you on Autodesk servers and servers of companies we hire to provide services to us. This information may be stored in the United States and in other countries where Autodesk operates, and in countries where our service providers who help us run our business operate.  Please see the sharing with third parties section for more information about our practices and requirements we place on service providers.
    If you are in the European Union, Switzerland, or other regions with laws governing data collection and use, you agree to the transfer to, and processing and storage of your personal information in the United States and other countries, the privacy laws of which may be considered as being less strict than those of your region. This consent applies in addition to other legal grounds for transfer, processing and storage of your personal information, such as for contract fulfillment purposes.
    We will keep personal information about you only as long as we need it:
    • to honor your choices,
    • to fulfill the purposes described in this privacy statement, or
    • as required or permitted by applicable laws and regulations

    Sharing information inside the Autodesk family of companies
    We may share your personal information within Autodesk or any of our subsidiary companies worldwide for purposes of

    Autodesk, Inc. is the party responsible for the management of the jointly-used personal information, and we and our subsidiaries agree to follow principles and procedures that help protect your personal information.
    Sharing information with third parties
    We may share information about you with companies, contractors and agents that help us to run our business. These companies, contractors and agents provide services to us like fulfilling orders, sending emails to you on our behalf, delivering customer support, and processing payments. They will have access to some of your information, limited to what they need to have to provide services.  We require these companies, contractors and agents to agree to use reasonable safeguards to protect information about you. They are not allowed to use the information collected by us for their own purposes.
    We may also share information about you:
    • When you agree to the sharing. We do not share personal information about consumers with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes unless the consumer agreed to that sharing. Under certain programs, we may offer to make an introduction between a consumer and another company. Learn more.
    • If you are a business customer, with our channel partners and sales partners for operational purposes, such as order fulfillment and to confirm information about what applications you have access to.
    • When the company, organization or institution through which you have access to our websites and applications has set up an agreement with us to receive user-specific information, subject to privacy laws.
    • When we are required provide information to comply with applicable laws, subpoenas, court orders or other legal processes.
    • When we have a good faith belief that the disclosure is necessary to prevent or respond to fraud, defend our websites or applications against attacks, or protect the rights, property and safety of Autodesk, our customers and users, or the public.
    • If we merge with another company or if we decide to sell or reorganize some part or all of our business, assets or stock (including if we file for bankruptcy or are part of a similar proceeding). You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of the part of our business, assets or stock affected may continue to use information about you as set forth in this privacy statement.
    • We may share or publish aggregated information and other information that does not specifically identify you, such as statistics about the number of visitors to our websites or about how customers and end users use our applications.
    Security and integrity of personal information
    We use a combination of administrative, technical and physical security controls to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, despite our efforts, no security controls are 100% effective, and we cannot completely ensure or warrant the security of your personal information.
    Information access, controls and choices
    Profile informationWe want to be sure the personal information we maintain is accurate, complete and up to date. You may have the right under applicable data protection laws to access the personal information that we keep for you, on request to us, except in certain limited circumstances (for example, where an applicable law requires us to deny such access).
    You can update, correct or delete your profile information by following the instructions below. Also, note that we need to retain certain records for legal or internal business reasons, and some of your information may remain on backup systems, in compliance with applicable law.
    • Autodesk ID. Login and make edits to your profile and information by following the instructions. A sign in help page is available if you have any problems.  Users from Japan with a Contact ID, please use the Japan login page.
    • Socialcam, Instructables and Pixlr. Login to the applicable website or application and make changes to your profile and information by following the instructions.
    • For help with these or other websites or applications, please contact us. Please tell us the specific website or application you need help with, along with your specific request. Please note that if you contact us to assist you, for your safety and ours we may need to authenticate your identity before fulfilling your request.
    Removing content you have postedTo remove content you have shared on our websites and applications, please use the same website or application feature you used to share the content and follow the instructions. An option to remove content may not always be available, for example on forums.
    Where someone has invited you to comment on, or view or edit content through our websites or applications, you may be able to edit or delete your contributions or the user who has invited your participation may have control over these options.
    Marketing choices
    • Autodesk - You can subscribe to or unsubscribe from Autodesk marketing communications, using our webform, or follow the unsubscribe instructions in communications you receive.
    • Instructables – Login to your account at the Instructables website and change your marketing preferences, or follow the unsubscribe instructions in communications you receive.
    • For other communications follow the unsubscribe instructions in the communications you receive, or if you need help please contact us.
    Remember, we may need to contact you for business reasons and you cannot unsubscribe or opt-out from these communications.
    Introduction programsSometimes companies or organizations, including ones with whom we have business relationships, will ask us to make an introduction to one or more members of 123dapp.com, Socialcam, Instructables, Pixlr and similar websites and applications. We may contact you with details and to see if you are interested in the introduction. You can say no to a specific introduction, and you can also ask not to receive requests for introductions in the future.
    Application programming interfacesWe may allow access to certain content, including personal information, posted through websites or applications through an application programming interface (API).
    API access will be mentioned in the applicable terms of service. We place limitations on what third party developers can do with information. Below is information about your choices.
    Public information access by third-party applications
    On some websites and applications, content you post is public and cannot be marked as non-public or private. Check the posting controls for the specific application or website you are using.
    Where there is an option to mark content as private or otherwise choose a non-public status, and you choose the non-public option, third party developers will not be able to access the following information through a public information access API:
    • the content (including its title, and public comments you include with the content);
    • the name (or pseudonym) associated with your account;
    • the profile image associated with you;
    • the profile URL (which may include user ID) for the account.
    If your content is "public" but you do not want developers to have access to your real name or profile image (for example, if it is a picture of your face), use a pseudonym or "handle" and use a profile image that does not consist of a picture of you.
    Authenticated access by applications
    You may choose to use third party applications that manage your interactions with our websites or applications. For example, third party applications may want to do the following types of activities:
    • Manage relationships: to manage user relationships on your behalf, such as follow, unfollow, block, and unblock people, and to approve people who want to follow you on our website or application;
    • Manage content: to post and remove content on your behalf;
    • Manage likes: to manage likes and similar actions on your behalf; and
    • Manage comments: to manage and post comments on your behalf.
    We require the app developers to explain what actions they will take and also what information (including personal information) they need to access in order to take these actions, and to get your approval. In addition, we require developers to provide a link to an explanation of their privacy practices.
    It is your choice to approve or not approve access by these third party applications.
    Limitations on access by third party applications
    In both cases described above, third party application developers are not allowed to use your personal information for marketing or promotional purposes without your consent, and are otherwise restricted in their use of your information by the terms of the applicable App Developer Agreement.

    Cookies and similar technologiesAutodesk and our service providers may use "cookies," "pixel tags," "web beacons," "clear GIFs," or other similar technologies in connection with website pages and HTML-formatted e-mail messages to, among other things, track the actions of website users and e-mail recipients, determine the success of marketing campaigns, compile aggregate statistics about website usage and response rates and make it easier for you to navigate our website or better tailor your experience with us, for example by not requiring you to submit login credentials repeatedly or by showing you content targeted to your interests. 
    A "cookie" is a commonly used automated data collection tool.  A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to a browser from a web server and gets saved on the hard drive of the computer that you are using.  Cookies and similar tools collect standard information from your browser such as browser type, browser language, and the website address you came from when you visited our website. They may also collect information about your Internet Protocol (IP) address, and clickstream behavior (for example, the pages you view and the links you click), along with the date and time of your visit or request, and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser or your account. 
    If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allows you to automatically decline cookies, or to be given the choice of declining or accepting the transfer of a particular cookie, or cookies from a particular web site, to your computer.
    If you set your browser to reject all cookies, you will be unable to use our websites and applications that require registration or customization in order to participate. If you choose to accept cookies from us and our service providers, you are granting us and our service providers your consent to set cookies on your computer.     Advertising, including mobile adsSome of our mobile applications and websites may contain ads. Learn moreabout advertisements.

    You may opt out of the use of your information by Ad Partners by using theNetwork Advertising Initiative tool.  If you delete all cookies, use a different browser, or use a different computer, you will need to use the tool to renew your opt out choice.
    In-application usage metrics and analytics
    • Customer Involvement Program (the CIP) – For our commercial products that include the option to participate in the CIP, you will be prompted about participating. You can change your choice by going to the Help menu, opening the CIP dialogue box, and following the instructions. Your choice will apply to all commercial Autodesk products installed on your computer. Learn more about the CIP.
    • Trial, preview and pre-release (beta) applications – For trial, preview or beta applications your limited or full participation in an in-application analytics program may be a condition of receiving access to those products. Please review the applicable terms of service, license agreement and any specific privacy or data collection notice attached to a given application for more details. If you do not wish to participate please do not use these products.
    • Customer Error Reporting and similar programs – You will be asked if you want to send in error reports, wither through our Customer Error Reporting program or an application specific error reporting program. In each case, a dialog box will appear in-application, and you will be told what information the tool will collect, how it will be sent to us, and any other relevant information about the tool or its use. You must choose to send us the report. Learn more about CER.
    • Mobile applications – We may use third party analytics services to support analytics for some of our mobile applications. For details about a specific mobile application, please read the About section (iOS devices) or the Legal/Privacy section (Android devices). You can opt-out of data collection for an application by following the in-application instructions. Unless the data collection notice in About or Legal/Privacy tells you otherwise, the control selection will be located in the application or device settings (iOS devices) or the settings menu (Android devices).

    Customer controlled servicesAutodesk customers may invite you to participate in a customer-specific site of an application, such as the Autodesk PLM360, Buzzsaw, or Constructware services. The customer site administrator manages these invitations, and requests to change or update information you provided when registering should be directed to that site administrator. AUTODESK ACTS ONLY AS A SERVICE PROVIDER TO OUR CUSTOMERS IN CONNECTION TO THESE APPLICATIONS, AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE OR LIABLE FOR THE USE AND/OR DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION ABOUT YOU BY SUCH CUSTOMERS.
    Changes to this privacy statement
    We may update this privacy statement from time to time. Check the "last updated" section at the top of this privacy statement to see the last time the privacy statement was changed.
    If we decide to make changes to our privacy statement on a forward going basis, we will tell you and other users by placing a notice onwww.autodesk.com and/or by sending you a notice to the e-mail address (if any) we have on file for you.
