YouTube - Workflow Enhancement for Revit for Task Management - Free Revit Family that will change your life.

Hi Everybody. I've just invented something for every Revit user on the planet.

When I watch someone redlining a set of plans, I look at the inefficiency of the person having to make the changes to the Revit model.

I thought, wouldn't it be great to redline in the model and make notes that we can make changes later and keep track of our work?

So, I came up with my Breadcrumb idea. Essentially you can add the breadcrumb and tag and make your notes right on the plans, sections or elevations. It's not a perfect system yet, but my techs are working on it the family to make it easier.

It's pretty easy to use. Place the breadcrumb where there's an issue, question or you need to do something. Then, "TG" to place the tag and type in your text in the question mark in the box.

One note:  On  plan view,  click select workplane, then place the family.

There's even a schedule to track the items. I've included fields for "Created By", an additional notes column and a Completed column.
There's a second schedule that filters out anything already completed (with Y or Yes in the box).

Email me if you'd like to get the file

Everyone who registers will get a link to the files. I need to get to 500 people to register for the event. I don't care if you've already registered, register again.

If it won't let you duplicate your email address, put a .xx after the .com and I'll know to filter that out.

I was going to rename it to CARB from Breadcrumb. Create, Annotate, Review and Build. For now, I'm sticking with breadcrumb.

Thanks.
Gregory

Revit 2011, The Future, You, 2012...Urgent

Well, were you able to download Revit yesterday?  How many times did you have to try and log in to get the software.  It's funny because I was assured by someone at Autodesk how their system could support all of the traffic and you'd be able to download the software with noooo problem.  They were using this really incredible backbone server that could handle all of the traffic.   I'm sure there will be a few tweaks to the system for next year.

I am a little proud of being the cause of the crush of traffic.  I have to thank the internet for that.  After making my blog post yesterday morning and being the first person in the world to blog about the release, I then went on Twitter to post about it.  Then it was off to 5 AUGI threads, then I went to the Autodesk Forum and made a post there.  Lastly, I  went to LinkedIn and Facebook and posted about it there.  It's amazing how connected we really are and how you can reach so many people at one time across the world.

That brings me to my main topic.  I've activated www.revit2012.com.  No, don't click on it, it will just bring you to the main blog.  But, starting next February 1st, you may want to peak at it from time to time.  Of course, if things repeat themselves, expect a release of information on March 25th 2011 and that you can download a new version on April 15, 2011.

I'm glad the madness of the the features, release date and actual download are behind me.  You have no idea how exhausting this time of year is for me.  So much to do in preparation for the new releases and to post about them all.

I've been good to you this year.  As always, being the first in the world to provide you this information brought me a lot of pressure and questions from the Borg about what I could and couldn't tell you.  I pushed back and continued to give you what you all wanted.

Now.  You have to give me something in return.  I have 1,918 blog subscribers, yet only 378 of you signed up for the Autodesk Tour.  Quite frankly, that's BS.  I need 122 more people to sign up before Saturday night.

Let me make this simple.  You don't have to actually attend the webcast. You just need to sign up.  I need 122 of you to please sign up right now.  It takes 2 minutes. Go to www.revit3d.com/adskvirtual.  Do I ask much of you?  No.  Do I provide a lot to you every morning. Of course I do.  So, why haven't you given me a tiny something back in return?  It doesn't matter if you've already signed up with another reseller.  It doesn't matter where in the world you are.  I just really need each of my subscribers to please sign up now.

If you do me this one favor, I promise to keep providing you with the best Revit, BIM, LEED and IPD blog in the world.  Now, go to www.revit3d.com/adskvirtual and sign up.  Thank you. Gregory

Autodesk - Autodesk Revit Architecture Services & Support - Revit on Parallels (Mac) with Windows 7 will crash when you click on the Application Menu "R".

Published date: 2010-Apr-15
ID: TS15003267

Applies to:
Autodesk® Revit® Architecture 2011
Autodesk® Revit® Architecture 2010

Issue

You have configured Parallels on the Mac with Windows 7 x64 and when you click on the "R" to open the Application menu to try to Save a file, an unrecoverable error will occur.

Figure 1:

Figure 2:

Solution

When Parallels is trying to access a shared drive using Mac OS X Extended, Revit will crash.

  • The default format on the Mac is HFS+ (Mac OS X Extended).
  • The default format on Windows 7 is NTFS.

You will need to change the Shared folders in Parallels so that it is not on the 'local' hard drive (Macintosh HD). This new shared folder location should be formatted as FAT. In this case, you will need an external hard drive or a FAT formatted USB flash drive.

Revit Services & Support - Family containing filled or masking regions appear white in Revit realistic visual style

Published date: 2010-Apr-13
ID: TS14983836

Applies to:
Autodesk® Revit® Architecture 2011
Autodesk® Revit® MEP 2011
Autodesk® Revit® Structure 2011

Issue

When you enable the Revit® realistic visual style some families containing a filled or masking region appear white.

Solution

The following applies to Revit families which meet two conditions:

  1. The family has 2D filled or masking regions in the plan view of the family.
  2. The visibility of some 3D elements has been turned off for plan views.

When the above two conditions apply the family will render white in appearance for any Revit project or family view set to the realistic visual style.

To allow the family to render accurately for the realistic visual style:

  • Make all 3D elements visible for floor plan views under the element Properties > Visibility/Graphics Overrides > Edit > Family Element Visibility Settings.
  • Assign a render material for the 3D elements if they do not have one assigned under the element Properties > Material.
  • Remove the filled or masking regions from the family.
